Mequon Soccer Club Teams in State Cup Finals

posted Jul 5, 2012, 4:18 AM by John DeFord
For the second straight year, the Mequon United U15 Girls Premier team reached the Finals of the Wisconsin State Cup tournament.  Powered by a tournament high nineteen goals and a solid defense which allowed only one goal, the U15 girls reached the semi-finals with convincing wins against MK Alliance, Waunakee Pressure, and Mequon United U15 Red.  A 3-0 semi-final win against the Croatian Eagles setup a Finals rematch with FC Milwaukee Blue.  The highly anticipated Championship featured two of the top teams in the region and lived up to all expectations.  With great play at both ends of the field, the teams battled through the final minutes and in the end, Mequon United U15 fell in a heartbreaking 1-0 decision.

The Mequon United U17 Girls Premier team faced tough competition in the Wisconsin 2011 State Cup tournament, defeating very worthy adversaries (2 WYSA Premier teams and 2 Midwest Regional League teams) and allowing only one goal-against through the semi-final round of the tournament.  The team was finally defeated however in the Championship Game by FC Milwaukee Blue.  The teams fought an intense 0-0 battle until the 70th minute, when FC Milwaukee finally broke the scoring barrier.  At that point, Mequon United went to an offensive power play, but FC was able to capitalize on that to score again near the very end.  Final score was 2-0.
Congratulations to both the U15 and U17 Girls for their outstanding play and leadership in representing the Mequon Soccer Club!
